Lills Thompson, creator behind The Joys of Homemaking, knows a thing or two about hosting. And an afternoon of Mahjong with friends from the Junior League of the Palm Beaches gave her plenty to work with.
Homemade tea cakes, table snacks to satisfy both sweet and salty cravings, and the kind of setting that makes you want to stay awhile—every detail came together to create the loveliest little corner of the world.

The best tables rarely rely on perfect matches. We shared our admiration for this warm terracotta, cream, and dusty blue mat in The Edit, but seeing it paired with deep navy tiles reminds us why it works so well. One color leads the conversation. The others simply support it. That's often all a table needs to feel intentional.

Styling

If this room looks familiar, it's because it was featured in our Journal article, How to Set a Mahjong Table That Feels Like an Event. But when we saw the space again, we noticed a detail we almost missed. The artwork displayed on the homeowner's smart TV echoes the colors and mood of the tablescape, quietly tying the entire room together. It's such a simple idea, but one that transforms the experience. These are the details your guests may never mention, yet they'll remember long after the last tile is put away.
